Loew’s Valencia started life as a ballroom above the Loew’s Century Theatre, which opened in 1921 designed by architect John J. Zink.
In 1926, noted theatre architect John Eberson was hired to convert the ballroom into a theatre. Eberson redesigned the space in his signature Atmospheric theatre style and it reopened as Loew’s Valencia Theatre in late December 1926.
The new theatre opened with the movie Valencia (1926) starring Mae Murray and Lloyd Hughes. Seating was stadium style (single floor), with two small private boxes on each side of the projection booth.
Loew’s Valencia was closed mid-May 1952 and then demolished in 1962 to make way for an office building called the Charles Center.
