Overview

The Orient Cinema, located in the Gallowgate area of Glasgow, opened in 1932 and sat 2,570. It was designed by Albert V. Gardner in the Atmospheric style, with a maverick Spanish castle theme.

The cinema closed in 1965 and was subsequently used for bingo until 1995.

In the late 1990s a serious fire gutted the foyer/lobby and may have damaged the auditorium.

In mid-2004 the Orient Cinema was demolished, to be replaced by housing and shops.
