<< Go Back up to Atmospheric Theatres Main Page

The 1,110-seat theatre opened in 1927, built by the Interstate Theatre Corporation and opened with Smile, Brother, Smile (1927)
starring Jack Mulhall and Dorothy Mackaill, along with a program of vaudeville, news, and music.
By the 1940s the theatre was known as the Interstate State Theatre, exclusively exhibiting films.
In 1970 the theatre was modernized, with some of the boxes and Atmospheric auditorium decoration removed and/or covered-up. The name changed to the Stoughton Cinema.
In the 1990s the theatre morphed into the Stoughton Cinema Pub, serving beer and exhibiting movies. The run lasted until early December 2007.
The theatre survived nearly 100 years. Sadly, the State Theatre was demolished in March 2026.
