The Palace Theatre opened in early September 1926 as the Manos Theatre, the crown jewel of the Manos Theatre chain. The 2,100-seat theatre was home to vaudeville and movies and featured three murals in the auditorium by renowned Chicago-based artist Louis Grell. When it opened, the $750,000 and 2,100-seat theatre was the jewel in the crown of the Manos Theatres chain, a family-owned group of vaudeville and movie theatres in southwest Pennsylvania. The auditorium is decorated with murals by Louis Grell featuring scenes from old French fairy tales. Grell is perhaps better known for his mural work at the Chicago Theatre. In addition to the two murals on either side wall, there was originally a third mural on the sounding board above the proscenium arch, depicting Aremond leading his love Lucille to a fairy castle. It is unknown what if anything is left of the mural underneath the current paintwork. From concerts and comedy, to theatre, dance, family entertainment, and more, the Palace Theatre now entertains more than 85,000 patrons at 100+ events each year. At its opening the theatre was equipped with a 3-manual, 10-rank Wurlitzer organ (opus 1391). The organ was removed in 1960.
