Sweden

Confidencen, Solna

Confidencen, also known as the Ulriksdal Palace Theatre, is Sweden’s oldest surviving theatre and is located within the grounds of Ulriksdal Palace. Its name derives from the unique “table à confidence”, a dining table that can be raised from below. Brought back to working condition in the early 1980s, the theatre now hosts concerts, opera, and period performances.

Drottningholm Palace Theatre, Stockholm

Drottningholm is one of the world’s best-preserved eighteenth century theatres. Opened in 1766, it retains its original stage machinery enabling authentic Baroque-era theatrical effects. Rediscovered in the 1920s and carefully restored, the theatre is internationally renowned for historic opera productions and offers a rare glimpse into eighteenth century performance practices.

Gripsholm Palace Theatre, Mariefred

The theatre was built for royal entertainment at Gripsholm Castle by King Gustav III in the late 1700s. Nowadays the theatre is essentially a museum artifact, reflecting Sweden’s rich theatrical heritage and offering insight into court performances of the late eighteenth century.
