Join Larry Mantle at The Theatre at Ace Hotel on July 27 for this installment of FilmWeek Screenings, during which Larry will showcase the movie in the highest quality fidelity and host a post-screening conversation with special guests. Theatre Tour

Special “In Maintenance” Theatre Tour!

From tales of the myriad first-class actors who have walked our boards over the years, to anecdotes and ghost stories… this August experience our Theatre Tours with a twist! Our Georgian auditorium is spruced up over the summer, as our Technical and Production teams ensure everything is in working order for the Autumn shows.

Like our usual tours you’ll explore the theatre’s 252-year history with an expert guide, gaining insight into the recent redevelopment through our new foyer space, studio theatre, and heritage interpretation.

Unlike our usual tours, see our Georgian auditorium in maintenance mode as the work which enables us to be the oldest continuously-working theatre in the English-speaking world is done! Due to this essential work, we are unable to allow access to the theatre stage or the Paintshop on this tour; if these are experiences you don’t want to miss, they are available on our July or Autumn tours.

Tours generally start at 10:30am and last one hour. Tickets £10 (£8 concessions).

Screening: Fleabag

12th September 2019, 7:30pm

This event has passed and is shown for archival purposes only.

Screening: Fleabag

See the hilarious, award-winning, one-woman show that inspired the BBC’s hit TV series Fleabag, broadcast live from London’s West End.

Written and performed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve) and directed by Vicky Jones, Fleabag is a rip-roaring look at some sort of woman living her sort of life.

Fleabag may seem oversexed, emotionally unfiltered and self-obsessed, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. With family and friendships under strain and a guinea pig café struggling to keep afloat, Fleabag suddenly finds herself with nothing to lose.

Playing to sold-out audiences in New York and London, don’t miss your chance to see this ‘legitimately hilarious show’ (New Yorker).

Denslow. The interior features stunning Art Nouveau decorative details and murals dating from the 1898 renovation. The building continues to house art galleries, theatre and performing arts studios and other arts-related businesses.

Inside Ear Hustle

WBEZ’s Podcast Passport, in partnership with Radiotopia from PRX, presents a conversation with the creators of one of the most original podcasts of our time: Ear Hustle. Join Morning Shift host Jenn White and Ear Hustle co-hosts Nigel Poor and Earlonne Woods for a lively discussion about the show’s unique origin story and surprising evolution across four seasons.

Ear Hustle offers insight into daily life inside and after prison, shared by those living it. The podcast is a partnership between Poor, a Bay Area visual artist and educator, and Woods, formerly incarcerated at San Quentin State Prison.

The Ear Hustle team works in the San Francisco Bay Area, both in San Quentin State Prison’s media lab and from offices on the outside, to produce stories that are sometimes difficult, often funny and always honest. Episodes offer a nuanced view of people involved with the American prison system and those reintegrating into society after serving time.

** CANCELED ** The Jerry Herman Awards

** THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED **

Each year, the Hollywood Pantages hosts the Jerry Herman High School Musical Theatre Awards with one goal: to constructively support local high school performing arts programs. Both public and private high schools from all over Los Angeles County submit productions for consideration across twelve performance and technical categories: Scenic Design, Lighting Design, Costume Design, Orchestra, Ensemble/Chorus, Musical Staging/Choreography, Musical Direction, Technical Crew, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, "No Small Parts", and Best Production.

The Hollywood Pantages sends volunteer adjudicators to all of the performances. In the spring, a team at the Pantages, determine the nominees using the adjudicators’ notes and a DVD of the production.

To compete for the best actor and best actress categories, each participating school sends one male and one female lead to audition in front of a panel of industry judges. For two days leading up the award show, the best actor and actress nominees are narrowed down to three male and three female finalists. The six finalists perform a solo number on the night of the awards, with a trip to New York to participate in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (The Jimmys) awarded to the final male and female contestants.

Ali Wong is a stand-up comic from San Francisco, now living in Los Angeles. Her first Netflix stand-up special *BABY COBRA* was filmed when she was 7 months pregnant. He called the special “the most honest, rawest, funniest special I’ve seen in years.”

She soon after became a very popular Halloween costume. Fans, both male and female, dressed up in Wong’s iconic red glasses, black and white striped dress and pregnant belly. ** CANCELED ** Chelsea Handler

** THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED **

Regarded as one of the most successful figures in entertainment today, Chelsea Handler and her talk shows, best-selling books, and stand-up comedy have attracted millions of fans worldwide.

After a successful seven-year run as the host of E!’s top-rated “Chelsea Lately,” Handler launched an all-new talk show for Netflix in May 2016. “Chelsea” was the first of its kind for the global on-demand generation and tackled today’s tough issues with the same acerbic wit and fearless curiosity fans know and love. Handler traveled around the world – braving an ice-skating rink in Russia and wielding a Trump-shaped piñata through the streets of Mexico and back again to Los Angeles, where she taped in front of a live in-studio audience featuring celebrities, dignitaries, and surprise guests.

From intimate dinner parties to viral PSAs to “explainer segments” that answered all the questions you’re too embarrassed to ask, she brought you thought-provoking, yet hilarious conversations about topics like international cultures, alternative lifestyles, education, health, sports, parenting, politics, and more. The show’s 120 episodes continue to be available for streaming globally on the platform.
