Firebird, the Russian Slavic folk tale passed down to children to this day, tells the story of a magical bird made of fire. Ivan, a young and boisterous prince, is granted the help of the bird to overthrow the evil magician Tzar named Kaschie and save the beautiful Princess.
Originally debuted in Paris at Palais Garnier by Imperial Russian choreographer Michel Fokine in 1910 with a score by Igor Stravinsky, the dance was considered groundbreaking and exceedingly radical compared to other ballets performed at the time. Yuri Possokhovs sensational production of Firebird is both visually and musically dazzling. Audiences of all ages will no doubt enjoy this most entertaining ballet fairytale.
Serenade is a milestone in the history of dance. It is the first original ballet Balanchine created in America and is one of the signature works of New York City Ballets repertory. The ballet is performed by 28 dancers in what are now signature blue costumes in front of a blue-hued background.
Show Times: Matinee 2pm, Evening 7:30pm. Tickets $37+fees.

Based on a popular Broadway play, The Seven Year Itch (1955) , is the story of a seemingly happily married man who stays behind in Manhattan while is family is away for summer vacation. It’s a sweltering summer, and Richard Sherman (Tom Ewell, in the role he originated on Broadway) is alone in his apartment for the season. At the same time, a beautiful blonde bombshell (Marilyn Monroe, at the height of her popularity) has just moved into the upstairs apartment and unknowingly gives him a case of “the seven-year itch.”
THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH is perhaps most famous for its iconic scene of Marilyn Monroe letting her white halter dress billow over the Subway vent. Although censors tamed down this scene, and many of the other themes of the original stage play, the film was an enormous box office success. And while it enshrined Marilyn Monroe’s image into legend, THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH also showcases her talents as a smart and nuanced actor.
Celebrate Marilyn Monroe’s birthday with one of her most iconic films! She’s never been more “Marilyn” than in this hilarious romp from writer/director Billy Wilder.

Based on the Broadway hit play, “Angel Street,” Gaslight (1944) is a psychological, gothic-noir thriller that’s dripping in deception, self-doubt, hysteria, and abuse of power. It provides a cautionary tale of trusting and loving too much, too quickly, through the story of a whirlwind romance between a beautiful, aspiring singer named Paula (Ingrid Bergman in an Oscar-winning role) and her handsome but sinister husband Gregory (Charles Boyer in a shocking performance).
Soon after moving into her late aunt’s townhome, Bergman’s marriage to Boyer begins to fall apart. From misplaced items to ghostly footsteps to dimmed gaslights, Gregory blames a series of unexplained events on the sensitive Paula, convincing her that she’s losing her mind. But when she discovers he is not the man she thought he was, Paula fights back to prove her sanity and save her life.
Directed by the legendary George Cukor, GASLIGHT coined the term “gaslighting” and continues to drive conversation around mental health and emotional abuse.

In From Russia with Love (1963) , crime ring SPECTRE is seeking revenge on James Bond in this Cold War action adventure. The stakes are higher than ever as Bond (Sean Connery, at his best) is faced with merciless Russian hitmen and spies as he tries to protect a vital Russian coding device for MI6.
The beautiful Soviet Consulate clerk Tatiana (Danielle Bianchi) is pursued across Turkey, Venice, and along the Orient Express by a ruthless SPECTRE assassin, played by a chilling Robert Shaw.
FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE features all the hallmarks of a Bond film, with its helicopter chases, tech gadgets, and theme song. It also features the first on-screen appearances of Bond arch-nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld, Desmond Llewelyn as “Q,” and John Barry with his first of eleven BOND scores. Before Daniel Craig, FROM RUSSIA is about as gritty as a BOND movie gets.

Set in Echo Park, Mi Vida Loca (1993) consists of several anecdotes about Latina teenagers who are “homegirls,” or girlfriends to gang members. The first story is about “Sad Girl” and “Mousie” whose friendship is tested when they both become pregnant by “Ernesto.”
The brief second story is about Ernesto training the quasi-comic character “Whisper” to become a drug dealer. The third story is about “Giggles,” a symbol of female empowerment, who leaves prison after serving time for her now-deceased boyfriend and is now determined to leave the gang life behind for something better.
The last story is a tender love story about Sad Girl’s sister “La Blue Eyes” who falls for a man in prison.
Director Allison Anders’ film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in 1993 and was released to acclaim in 1994, with critics applauding its realism. Anders worked with non-actors and Echo Park community members to create this realistic, difficult story about sisterhood and sacrifice, and it has since become a cult classic.
MI VIDA LOCA was nominated to the National Film Registry in 2023.
